Heavy Metal
Arsenic (As)
A naturally occurring metalloid that dissolves into groundwater from certain rock formations, and is also introduced by some agricultural and industrial activity.
Copper (Cu)
An essential trace metal at low levels, but a corrosion-related contaminant at high levels — like lead, it usually enters water from household plumbing rather than the source.
Lead (Pb)
A toxic heavy metal that leaches into water mainly from aging plumbing rather than the water source itself.
Mercury (Hg)
A heavy metal released by industrial and mining activity and atmospheric deposition, which can accumulate in water bodies and the food chain.

pH
A measure of how acidic or basic water is. It isn't a pollutant itself, but water far outside the neutral range can be corrosive or indicate contamination.
Turbidity
A measure of water cloudiness caused by suspended particles. It is not a contaminant on its own but a strong indicator of treatment effectiveness and pathogen risk.
